Civil Wars, Rhine Legions. Anonymous, circa May/June-December 68. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.47 g, 1 h), uncertain mint in Gaul or in the Rhine Valley. 'Virtus-Roma Group'. VIRTVS Head of Virtus to right, wearing crested helmet decorated with two volutes on the bowl. Rev. S-P-Q-R around round shield lying on top of two spears in saltire. BMC -. CG 115. Cohen -. Gollnow -, cf. 1142 (VIRT). Martin 89. Nicolas 82. RIC 78A. Extremely rare, apparently the third known example. Minor marks, otherwise, very fine.
